ABC Mouse

I have recently been seeing a lot of advertisement for the learning website ABCmouse. I was unsure if paying for a subscription would be worth it, or even if my daughter Kinsley would benefit from it since she is only two. I finally gave in and figured it couldn’t hurt to try. ABCmouse currently offers a 30-day free trial and a monthly subscription starting at $7.95 a month. When I first signed my daughter up for ABCmouse, I had to fill out a good bit of info. Of course there was the basic parent info and then from that point on, everything was about my daughter. I had to input her age, her grade level, and a few other little details to customize her account. Then I let her create her own avatar (completely customizable) and she was able to choose a fish and a hamster to keep in her ABCmouse “room”. Once I set up her profile, Kinsley had to complete an 11 section assessment (doesn’t have to be completed all at once). This assessment allowed ABCmouse to provide Kinsley with a personalized lesson plan based on what she already knows and what she is struggling with.  20161228_181841

After her initial assessment Kinsley was able to play games, watch videos and listen to songs all based around her lesson plan. I downloaded the ABCmouse app on her iPad, so she was able to play and learn wherever we went. The lessons were extremely fun, age-appropriate, and very engaging. Her very first lesson was based around recognizing the letter A. First, she had to sing a song about the letter A and things that start with A. Then, she had to complete a letter A puzzle. After that she had to watch a short cartoon video about the letter A, and then she had to trace it with her finger! She earned tickets which each activity she successfully completed which made her  more excited to complete more lessons! She can then take those tickets and purchase things for her ABCmouse “room” and her two ABCmouse pets! After the very first lesson, Kinsley could successfully point out the letter A out of 26 mixed up letter cards! I was extremely impressed.PicMonkey Collage.jpg

I really love that as a parent, I can track her progress in the parent portal. I can see how many lessons she has completed, how many tickets she has earned, and how much progress she is making. Every so often she completes little tests to make sure she is grasping the lessons and on the right track. As she grows and learns, ABCmouse will grow with her. ABCmouse is constantly adding new lesson plans so my daughter will continue to be on track with the rest of her peers. To be honest, I believe she could test AHEAD of her peers if we continue to use ABCmouse. Overall I found ABCmouse to be extremely user-friendly and my daughter is having so much fun with her lessons! This is one of the best things I could’ve done for my daughter!
