Did you know that long summer breaks can cause your children major setbacks in school? This learning loss is known as “Summer Brain Drain”, and can cause children to lose up to three months of math and reading skills! As parents it is our jobs to keep our children entertained for summer breaks, while also helping them retain the information they learned in class. Peaceable Kingdom has a large number of learning games that can help parents keep old information fresh while keeping their children entertained!
Alphabet Bingo: A fun twist on the old the classic bingo game, this alphabet bingo is created for children 4 and up. Alphabet Bingo comes with 6 game boards, 26 alphabet tokens, 72 chips, 1 game bag, and instructions for multiple ways to play. It can be played with 2-6 players, and usually takes about 30 minutes to complete a game. Just like regular bingo, Alphabet Bingo is very simple. Someone must reach into the bag, pull out a letter token, and then anyone with a match gets to mark their board! There is no reading involved, so this game is perfect for children to play by themselves, or with an adult. My three year old daughter had a blast playing this! We are currently working on learning letter recognition, so this was a super fun way for her to put her skills to the test! It is also easy for her to win since everyone playing has equal odds! Not only does this game helps with letter recognition, but it also helps with uppercase letters and letter/object associations.
Blue Plate Scramble– One of our favorite games, Blue Plate Scramble, is an excellent learning game! In Blue Plate Scramble, players have 30 seconds to remember which foods go to which plates without looking! This game does a wonderful job of increasing visual matching and memory skills. This game comes with 36 plate tiles, 36 food tiles, and 1 score board. Although this game is made for children 5 and up, my three year old had no issues whatsoever playing on her own. We played this game in a group of four, and it was such a fast-paced little game! The kids were giggling the entire time! There are no winners or losers in this game, which makes it even more fun for everyone to play!
Mole Rats In Space: Although this doesn’t look like a learning game, Mole Rats In Space can really help with team building! In this game, players must work together to help the mole rats gather their equipment and get to their escape pod before time runs out! The mole rats must climb the ladders and slip down air-shafts while avoiding any of the snakes. This game comes with 1 game board, 51 cards, 20 tokens, 4 mole rats, and instructions. This game is made for children 7+, so I didn’t allow my daughter to mess with the tiny pieces. However, my 6 year old nephew has dubbed this as his new favorite! This game is best played with 2-4 players, so my nephew and I worked as a team to save the mole rats! A full game took us about 20 minutes, however it could’ve gone longer depending on the cards we drew.
These are only a few of the learning games that Peaceable Kingdom offers! Depending on your child’s age and school level, Peaceable Kingdom is sure to have a game that will fit your child’s personality and help them prevent Summer Brain Drain!
