Fortunately, there are a few ways to save money on moving expenses.

1. Declutter: You will need to sort your things anyway, so make sure to get rid of things that you don’t need- which may or may not include old furniture. Having less to move will save you on moving costs and hassle, and you can even earn some money by holding a garage sale or selling some of old stuff online.
2. Bargain Hunt for Cheap Movers: With a bit of research and critical thinking, you can find a moving company that has the best service for your needs for the lowest price. Consider whether you want to be charged by hour or by mile- this may depend on traffic- and plan your move accordingly as you survey moving companies.  Hollywood, for instance, is a high traffic area so if you aren’t moving far, you may wish to avoid moving during weekday rush hour.
3. Scavenge: The cost of moving boxes can quickly add up. Instead of buying all of your boxes, try to repurpose some used ones. Ask your co-workers to save boxes from the printer paper, and check with your local stores to see if they have any clean cardboard boxes that they are willing to give. With a bit of luck, you may be able to cross moving boxes off your expense list altogether.

Change can be tough, but a bit of extra foresight, planning and a bit of bargain hunting can make you move with peace of mind and a bit of extra cash in your wallet.
