When we heard about It’s A Squirrel’s Life™ from Moxy Roxy, Inc. we simply couldn’t pass it up. It’s A Squirrel’s Life™ was inspired by creator Randy Hecht’s rescue squirrel Roxy! The object of the game is simple: complete the life cycle of a squirrel! This game comes with 1 game board, 4 squirrels, 26 tail rings, 49 acorns, 49 strawberries, 49 pumpkins, 4 player trays, 25 squirrel destiny cards, and 1 pair of squirrel dice. By picking up food, visiting the squirrel hospital, having babies, and doing other squirrel activities players can complete the game. The first squirrel with 10 acorns, 10 strawberries, 10 pumpkings, 1 yellow ring, 2 green rings, and 2 pink rings wins the game (Rings are awarded for completing activities like getting a rabies shot and having babies)!
Although my daughter (3yrs old) is a bit young for this game, she helped me keep track of my squirrel piece which we named “cookie”. My niece and nephew (6yrs old and 13yrs old) happily joined as our competitors. We were all surprised at how quickly this game became competitive. The first card I picked up said “collect 1 acorn from the player on the left”! So before anyone even had a chance to collect additional food, my squirrel was already stealing their acorns! The kids thought it was hilarious when their squirrels would steal all of my goodies, leaving me with absolutely no food whatsoever! While playing the game, the kids actually learned a lot about what squirrels really do in their life. Collecting food, making nests, and having babies are all things they do on a regular basis that us humans never have a chance to see.
Of course I came in very last place thanks to the older kids, however we had such a great time playing this adorable game! My daughter (who didn’t even play on her own) has requested this game the past two family game nights! The overall concept of the game is very easy to understand, and the kids really get a kick out of all the nut-snatching. Randy Hecht really put a lot of thought into creating this game, and the finished product really shows that!
