Bring Your Child’s Room Theme to Life

This is a guest post provided by Decor Brilliance

There’s nothing more fun than decorating a child’s room or creating a nursery from scratch. It can be overwhelming and costly but picking a theme is a great way to wrangle all of your décor ideas. Do you already have a theme picked out? If not, check out these top children’s room themes:

Once you have a theme, it’s time to bring it to life and a room’s walls is the place to start.1.png

Make the Walls a Focal Point

Walls take up a lot of real estate in rooms so it’s important to use them in your decorating. Traditionally, wallpaper is viewed as a trend of the past, there are elements of it that can bring a room or office space from drab to fab. But who has time to deal with the labor involved in wallpaper application and the residue it leaves behind. Wall murals allow you to transform ANY room on your own with no residue left behind. When picking a wall mural for your wall, there are a few things to consider:

Style: You’ve picked a theme, so let’s stick to it! After browsing countless murals, it’s hard not to want to change things up. But you can be creative – so think outside of the box. If your theme is nautical, you can consider a mural with sailboats, a beach or ocean scene, or even a custom real-life photo that aligns with the water or beach.

Color: Much like the paint on your walls, a wall mural will have to work with the other pieces in your room. A good rule of thumb is keeping your main pieces (furniture, walls, carpet/rugs) in either a warm or cool colors and then accessorizing with accent items in either color scheme. Don’t forget! If you’re not freshly painting the room walls, you will want to consider a mural that works with the existing wall colors.

Longevity: Sure, it’s not as permanent as wallpaper, but selecting a wall mural that can stick around a few years will make it worth it even more. For example, loud patterns may not be your thing – so avoid a busy look and swap for something cleaner and lighter.2.pngReady to be brilliant?

Your time is precious (and so is your wallet). Skip wallpaper and pick a stunning wall mural that’s easy to install and leaves no residue.

  1. When my children were small my husband painted a huge mural on their ceiling. It was dawn to dusk. The evening portion of the scene included glow stars that would shine at night!

  3. I love that you have mentioned longevity. Too many times when we style a child’s room we don’t think about how quickly we will have to change the theme.
