Martha & Marley Spoon: February Meals

Food subscription boxes have been an extreme convenience in my life since I am always so busy. Some boxes are absolutely amazing, while others fall extremely short.  Martha & Marley Spoon is one that exceeded my expectations. Martha & Marley Spoon sends recipes of my choice as well as the pre-portioned ingredients straight to my door.  They are always premium ingredients such as grass-fed beef and seasonal produce. Martha & Marley Spoon offers several different subscription options. I can choose from a 2 people box with 2,3, or 4 meals per week or I can choose a 3-4 person box  with 2,3, or 4 meals a week. The more meals per week you select, the cheaper the meals are per serving. I chose the 3-4 person box with 2 meals per week. My weekly meals always arrives fresh and chilled so that it is ready to cook as soon as I get home. This week’s menu had options of Peruvian Beef Stir-Fry, Chicken Schnitzel & Potatoes, French Onion Grilled Cheese, Orecchiette and Sausage, Winter Minestrone, Spicy Honey Shrimp, Glazed Sweet Potato Steaks, Meatball & Orzo Stew, Sweet & Sour Braised Pork, or Lentil & Cauliflower Soup. My daughter and I decided to go with Chicken Schnitzel & Potatoes and French Onion Grilled Cheese for this week’s meals. Both of these options were labeled as kid-friendly, which made it extremely easy to narrow down our options. The other menu options were labeled as well such as vegetarian, gluten free, low-calorie, and spicy. I love how these labels let the customer know exactly what to expect before they purchase.20180206_185035.jpgThe first thing we decided to make was the Chicken Schnitzel & Potatoes with Braised Red Cabbage. This meal was described as “a fancy chicken cutlet, coated in flour, egg, Dijon, and panko before getting fried until crispy”. The serving time was 20-30 minutes and was marked as an “easy” recipe to complete. I found the instructions extremely easy to follow, and I was amazed to see that my finished product looked exactly like the photo online! I am not a good cook, so I felt so accomplished pulling off such a yummy dish! Everyone in the family loved it, which is great because my daughter tends to be picky.A few days later we decided to make the French Onion Grilled Cheese with Caper Tarragon Green Beans. This meal was described as “sweet caramelized onions and gooey fontina cheese piled onto whole-grain bread”. The serving time was 30 – 40 minutes and was also marked as an “easy” recipe to complete. Although this recipe took a little longer than the first recipe, it was much easier overall to complete. My daughter actually chose this option herself, and she loved the finished product!PicMonkey Collage.jpg
